In college , it is the desire and dream of many a student to graduate tops in his or her class .Wether this dream would become reality depends largely on the principles applied to model the success of those who have been there before. Studying in school is no easy feat.Making good grades does not belong solely to the most intelligent folks in class. As is always said, examination is not the true test of knowledge , hence, many of those who make the best results represent those who have mastered the art of studying a course material and preparing adequately for exams.
No gimmicks involved. You need to learn the basic secrets adapted by those who made their mark in school.
1) Know your strenghts and weaknesses:Once in school , you would have discovered that some subjects take the most time for you to comprehend than others. As soon as you resume for academic activities , the very first thing to do is ;get down to those who have done the courses or subjects you intend to do and ask them for nuggets.Ask for the course content , seek to know the nature of the subject ie what category it falls into. For example , a student of Accounting who has to do Linear Programming may find if a major deviation from what he has been used to .At this time , he/she should understand that the course requires a lot of calculation , hence, the services or assistance of colleagues in the department of mathematics, physics or engineering should be sought for. Once you have first hand knowledge of all the courses you'll be facing per semester , you'll be able to assess your strenght and where much more work would be needed of you the most.
2) Make good use of past questions : Past questions reflect the mind of the lecturer and they can be your best guide to good reading .Past questions help you narrow your study to what is most relevant at the time. You may deside to go beyond the limits sujested by your past questions only after the exams are over or if you have enough spare time at your disposal. Past questions tell you the scope the teacher is most likely to cover for each semester .It also lets you have a pip into his reward system ie how he allocates marks to questions thereby helping you focus on what questions would give you the most scores.
